The State plans to call only four more witnesses in the trial of Najwa Petersen and the three men she allegedly hired to kill her husband Taliep.

Lead prosecutor Shareen Riley made the announcement when the Cape High Court adjourned for the day on Tuesday.

She said the four would include staffers from phone companies Vodacom and Telkom, a crime mapping expert from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, and investigating officer Captain Joe Dryden.

Najwa's advocate Klaus von Lieres has indicated that he intends to call his client to testify in her own defence.

He has also said he wants to apply to recall state witness Fahiem Hendricks, who told the court last month Najwa asked him to find hitmen to kill Taliep.

The trial got under way in earnest on 9 April.
