The drunken driving case of former ANC chief whip Tony Yengeni was on Monday postponed to 5 June in the Goodwood Magistrate's Court.
He faces a main count of drunk driving and an alternative count of reckless and negligent driving.
Yengeni was arrested in November last year following an incident when the vehicle he was driving hit a traffic island in the middle of the road.
Police who investigated the incident allegedly smelt alcohol on his breath.
On Monday, Yengeni's legal representative asked for the postponement because they had yet to receive "further particulars" from the prosecution.
Yengeni's bail was extended. He is out on parole after serving time for fraud.
His parole conditions include a stipulation that he may not use liquor or drugs — other than those prescribed by a doctor — until 23 September 2008, nor may he visit any place where liquor is consumed.
