More than 40 motorists were arrested for drunken driving and speeding at several roadblocks in Johannesburg over the weekend, Metro police said on Sunday.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said 28 people were arrested for drinking and driving and 14 were arrested for speeding on the N1's Olifantsfontein and Beyers Naude off-ramps.
"Eighty-seven fines were issued for vehicle defects, driving without a licence, and for expired licence disks."
In addition, speeding cameras captured 1264 pictures of speeding cars.
Minnaar said a motorist was arrested after he was caught speeding for the second time.
"He had taken off his licence plates and was going 224km per hour."
Another motorist was arrested for doing 146 km per hour without his rear licence plate.
All 42 motorists were expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates court on Monday morning, said Minnaar.
