An elderly married couple were knocked down and killed by an
allegedly drunk driver in Kempton Park on Thursday, Ekurhuleni metro
police said.
The man, aged 77, and his wife, aged 70, were walking towards their car
in Voortrekker Road when they were struck by a speeding blue Astra,
said Superintendent Mveli Nhlapo.
Both sustained multiple injuries and were certified dead on the
scene.
"The driver of the Astra, aged 60, was tested for liquor and found
to be under the influence and over the limit. He was arrested on the
spot," said Nhlapo.
The driver was taken to the Kempton Park police station.
He faces charges of culpable homicide, and reckless and negligent
driving.
