Thirty people were injured in two separate minibus taxi accidents in Johannesburg and Pretoria on Thursday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said 11 people were injured in an accident in Randburg at 11am.

"The accident occurred on Bram Fischer Drive when a minibus taxi hit a concrete wall surrounding a house before overturning and landing on its side on the road."

The taxi was travelling from central Randburg towards Linden when the driver allegedly swerved left to avoid a stationary vehicle in the slow lane. The taxi then mounted a pavement before smashing into the wall and overturning.

He said that 11 occupants including the driver were treated at the scene.

"They were all fortunate to be in a stable condition and very lucky to escape without serious injuries. The driver had minor injuries but refused medical treatment."

"The injured were transported by ambulances to hospital for further assessment and treatment," Dollman said.

Dollman said the owner of the house was home at the time of the incident and was shocked to find that several metres of his wall had been smashed down.

Nineteen people were injured in the second accident which occurred on the Mabopane highway, Pretoria.

"Paramedics arrived to find that a minibus taxi rolled down an embankment close to a hairpin bend on the highway in the Akasia area."

He said that paramedics attended to the injured at the scene.

Eleven people sustained minor injuries and 8 others sustained more serious injuries.

"The 19 patients were transported by ambulances to the Garankuwa and Pretoria Academic hospitals," Dollman said.
