Six officials heading the ANC Parliamentary Caucus support services have been suspended, the party said on Thursday.

Briefing the media at Parliament, ANC Chief of Staff Mzwandile Radebe said the six managers were put on special leave following an audit that revealed a number of administrative irregularities in the management of the caucus support services unit.

The audit revealed amongst other things several unauthorised transactions, irregularities in the appointment of service providers and lack of internal controls.

Radebe could not disclose the amount money involved, saying the party was still investigating.

"We still want to give ourselves the opportunity to analyse and review these," he said.

The former Head of Caucus Services, his deputy and the finance head were amongst the six managers who had been suspended.

Radebe shrugged off speculation that the suspension was part of a broader campaign by the new ANC leadership to get rid of all those connected to the party's previous leadership.

"The decision... was taken in the context of the caucus's turnaround strategy to ensure an administration that is effective and efficient to support the ANC," he said.

He did not deny that the affected managers were all appointees of the previous ANC caucus' political leadership.
