A North West MEC has urged police not to let two alleged farm killers escape from custody again.

Transport, roads and community safety MEC Phenye Vilakazi on Sunday welcomed the arrest of a second suspect in the Lichtenburg double farm murder case.

The man was arrested on Friday about 7pm at his parents’ home at Dinokana village outside Zeerust.

His arrest follows that of another man who was arrested on Thursday after he was cornered at his hideout.

Said Vilakazi: "The people of Buhrmansdrift and Ottoshoop have been living in fear since these murders took place.

"I hope they will be able to ease their fears now."

Vilakazi has called on police to ensure that the two did not escape from custody again "as they are dangerous criminals who must be kept away from our citizens".

The two are accused of murdering Katrena Deysel (56) and her husband, All (60) on Monday night last week after escaping from police custody.

They had initially been arrested on charges of committing a series of crimes, including the murder of an elderly woman.
