Another four cases of fraud involving Liberty Life have been opened in Durban — bringing the total number of cases to 17.
Police spokesperson Captain Thembeka Luthuli said on Friday that two cases were opened on Thursday and two on Wednesday.
She said no arrests had been made yet.
All 17 cases of fraud were opened in the Durban area between December 2007 and February 2008.
The victims claimed that large amounts of their salaries had been debited from their bank accounts allegedly by Liberty Life for premiums they did not owe.
Only two of the victims had met with brokers but had never signed contracts or released any personal details.
The remaining victims had never met with any brokers.
Liberty Life has branches countrywide and specialises in life insurance, disability cover, medical cover, corporate insurance, savings and investment.
Police suspect that fraudsters somehow got hold of their victims' salary slips.
