Absa customers will soon be able to make automated teller machine (ATM) transactions, including cash withdrawals, without using a bank card, the bank announced on Thursday.
Using CashSend system, Absa customers will be able to electronically
transfer funds via an Absa ATM, self-service kiosk, mobile or internet
banking, to a recipient who will then be able to withdraw the funds
from any of Absa's ATMs, without a card or bank account.
A maximum of R3000 could be transferred from an Absa ATM or
self-service kiosk and R1000 via mobile and internet banking. The full
amount had to be withdrawn.
Absa retail bank director Venete Klein said the sender would enter
the recipient's cellphone number and a six-digit access code known by
both parties, after which a 10-digit withdrawal number would be sent to
the recipient's cellphone.
