Scott Dixon won the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway, tying team-mate Dan Wheldon for most victories in a single season on the IndyCar Series circuit with his sixth.

Wheldon, who finished fifth on the 1.5-mile tri-oval, also recorded six wins on the circuit in 2005.

One day after winning his fifth pole of the year, Dixon entered the final lap trailing Helio Castroneves, who was seeking his first win of 2008.

But on Turn 4, the Brazilian slowed down thanks to a lack of fuel, allowing the New Zealander to pass on the outside and win by a margin of 0.5532 of a second.

It was the second consecutive victory for Dixon, who has captured four of the five races in which he was the pole-sitter this season. He also won the Rexall Edmonton Indy on 26 July.

With Saturday's win, Dixon moved 78 points ahead of Castroneves for first place in the standings.
