Australia's Ryan Briscoe won the Indy 200 IndyCar Series race on Sunday, by defeating pole sitter and Team Penske team-mate Helio Castroneves.

New Zealand's Scott Dixon finished third while Australia's Will Power and Oriol Servia, of Spain, rounded out the top five at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Centre track.

There were seven different leaders and seven lead changes in the 85-lap race. Brazil's Castroneves, who started on the front row with Briscoe, improved on his third-place finish in this race last year.

The 26-year-old Briscoe earned his second victory of the season as this marked the 27th time in IndyCar Series history that team-mates have finished first and second.

"Finally, something went our way," Briscoe said.

Briscoe, of Sydney, captured the checkered flag with the help of a late pass over Dixon. He dominated through much of the race leading for 43 of the 85 laps. Briscoe seized the lead for good on lap 60 and avoided several crashes on the 2.26-mile road course.

Briscoe started from the pole two weeks ago in Watkins Glen but crashed late in the race and finished twelfth.

Dixon still leads runner-up Castroneves by 58 points in the overall points standings.

The next IndyCar Series race is July 26 in Edmonton, Canada.
