Fernando Alonso's Renault was the fastest in Formula 1 testing at the Montmelo circuit near Spanish capital Barcelona on Wednesday.

The 2005 and 2006 champion, using slick tyres to be in use for the 2009 season, clocked a best lap of 1min 18.483sec, far ahead of the Ferrari driven by Michael Schumacher (1:19.323).
