Lewis Hamilton will be penalised ten grid positions at the French Grand Prix later this month for his part in a crash with Kimi Raikkonen in Canada on Sunday.

Hamilton careered into the back of his championship rival's Ferrari as the Finn waited at a pit exit red light.

The incident ended the race for both drivers and the race stewards have penalised Hamilton for causing the collision.

The red light was on while the safety car passed the pit exit and while Raikkonen and eventual race winner Robert Kubica saw it and stopped, Hamilton could not slow down in time to prevent a crash.

German Williams driver Nico Rosberg will also be penalised ten grid positions at Magny-Cours after he ran into the back of Hamilton during the same incident.
