Lovers of oysters and wine are invited to join The Brightwater Commons for its annual Oyster, Wine & Food Festival. This year's event will take place on Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st June, opening from 11am to 6pm daily.
Awaiting visitors will be an array of fresh succulent oysters, variety of fine wines, oyster recipes and other foods and beverages for sampling.
The grassy commons will be home to an 'oyster shack' where fresh oysters can be obtained.
Also situated in this area will be two 'oyster islands' each offering a selection of mouthwatering oyster recipes to tantalise the tastebuds. Take a sip of oyster soup or sample an oyster tortilla complete with guacamole and salsa. Whilst shrimp and oyster wrapped in bacon is certain to be a taste sensation, sushi oysters are a must! In addition, there will be some interesting alcoholic beverages.
Visitors can also enjoy demonstrations of various oyster recipes. These will be presented by Lehan Botha, Executive Chef of Legend Hospitality School and founder of Kettle Kings. The demonstrations will take place daily at the 'oyster islands' at various times.
Proceeding to the promotions tent, one will find an exhibition of red wines, white wines and rosés, showcased by both popular and lesser known estates.
Visitors can expect to see a number of new wine exhibitors, including an organic estate, at this year's festival. There will be a special showing of Viognier; and present will be several winemakers to give wine lovers "the interesting inside story" whilst they're sampling. Cheese platters will be sold by the VATS Wine Club with part proceeds going to the FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
Forming part of the festival will be a wine auction on Saturday 31st May. This will take place in the promotions tent starting at 5pm. One can bid on a variety of red and white wines. Proceeds raised will also go to the FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre
A treat for visitors on Sunday 1st June will be the classical 'concert' taking place on the promotions stage from 2pm to 4pm. This delightful musical performance will feature the talents of Bella Voce Africa (Beautiful Voice of Africa).
