To the delight of many a fashionista, low slung jeans are moving over to make way for the high-waisted, curve-accentuating trousers of the season...
It's time to bring the focus up from the hips and rediscover your long forgotten waist.
The look is smart, sophisticated and feminine. Last seen in the 80's — with women in power suits — the high-waisted trouser has returned in a much more glamorous fashion and has left shoulder pads behind (thankfully).
Getting it right
To sport this well-groomed look it is essential to bear a few things in mind:
Keep it simple: A plain blouse or fitted tee in the same colour as the trousers will create a fantastically sleek and streamlined, chic look.
To really emphasise the high-waist look, throw a waist cinching belt into the mix for a bit of adornment, and indication that this is a deliberately crafted look.
This is a great chance to get creative on your neat, tidy and preferable monochrome look. Go wild and spend some time choosing the right belt(s) for you — wide or narrow, belts are very much in vogue and can swing your look to professional, playful or elegant in just a few notches.
Into the night
To turn the look into one appropriate for evening, make the easy transition from day into night by simply adding a single piece of statement jewellery, bringing shimmer and allure into play.
A slouchy, metallic, day bag can also be replaced by a more elegant and glamorous clutch purse — another superb opportunity to get creative with your ensemble.
For a particularly polished look which works very well for those with shorter legs, team your trousers with a pair of heels which will elongate the legs and send you sky high. This works especially well with cuffed trousers.
High-waisted trousers will be around for a while still, so make sure that which ever way you wear it, you make sure you work it.
