Don't neglect your feet
Posted Thu, 05 Jun 2008

We don't always appreciate our feet but we should. Here's how to really take care of them.

  • Keep them dry. After every wash make sure you dry your feet properly. The warm, damp areas between your toes are the ideal breeding ground for athlete's foot to set in. Rubbing an ear bud soaked in surgical spirits between your toes, also goes a long way to ridding them of harmful bacteria.
  • Keep them moisturised. Allowing the skin on your heels to dry out can lead to painful cracks that sting. Be sure to moisturise your heels regularly.
  • Romance the stone. Your feet spend all day carrying your weight around so they're bound to develop thick calluses. Don't try and cut these away. Simply use a pumice stone to smooth down the rough thickened areas.
  • Let them roam free. Barefoot walks on the beach make your feet happy too. The sand gently exfoliates your feet while the soft terrain gives your foot a massage. Slops and soft shoes also allow your feet to move more freely, improving circulation.
  • Cover up when you're barefoot. If you're not wearing shoes, remember to cover them with sunblock.
