Fred: I’ve got some cysts that keep coming out on my face. I’m 48-years-old. I’ve been to see a couple of doctors and they cut them out, but they keep coming back again. I would like to know what to do about this.
Harry: Did the doctor tell you what the cause of the cysts are, because there are a variety of causes for these cysts. The common cyst that you get is called a sebaceous cyst and they take out a kind of oily material. But if that cyst has not been properly drained or properly treated it will recur. What this may mean is that you may have to have proper removal of the cyst. Simply to drain the cyst is not enough. Did your doctor put a needle in them?
Harry: He did with some of them, but some of them he cut out.
Fred: In other words he’s made a little cut in order to try and get the material out. But if the cyst wall still remains there then it forms again, and starts forming this oily substance again. So at this stage you may need a surgeon to cut the cyst out. And because it’s on your face, you may want that done by a plastic surgeon. You must now ask your GP to refer you to a plastic surgeon. And what he will do is remove the cyst totally so it won’t recur and you will look as handsome as ever.
Fred: But the cysts still come out in places that they weren’t in before.
Harry: Well you may have multiple ones – you may have several. So please let your doctor refer you to a plastic surgeon so that you can be cured.
