Singer and actor Steve Hofmeyr has undergone an emergency operation in a Gauteng hospital, Beeld reported on Monday.

He went under the knife in the early hours of Sunday morning to repair a perforation of his colon. He was still in a serious condition in the ICU of the hospital on Monday afternoon.

The singer's family asked for the name of the hospital to be withheld.

Hofmeyr had been complaining of stomach pains the past few days but did not visit a doctor.

His wife Natasha stayed in the hospital through the night during and after the operation.

Hofmeyr's booked performances up to 31 May were cancelled because of the turn of events, Beeld reported.
