Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are planning a trial separation, according to media reports. But aides close to the couple have slammed the speculation as "absolutely false".

The former 'Dawson's Creek' actress plans to move from Los Angeles to New York with their daughter Suri, reports In Touch magazine in a story with the headline: "Katie wants her life back."

"Of course Katie still loves him (Tom), but she does often feel like the little wife that has to sit there quietly and smile serenely at everything he says," a source tells the magazine.

Holmes is reportedly planning the move to Manhattan so that she can pursue her ambitions of working on Broadway.

"She'd love to go to Broadway to show the world she can act," an insider tells In Touch.

But Holmes' representative has dismissed the reports.

"She and her husband enjoy a close and loving relationship," claimed the spokesperson.

Almost three years have passed since Cruise and Holmes had their first date on 29 April 2005.
