'Shine A Light' scores 5/5

Giving any Rolling Stones album a full house of five stars comes naturally if you are an old rocker who wore out his first pair of biking boots jiving to this iconic British wild boy band.

And if it is a memorable live concert at The Beacon, one of New York’s great theatres, meticulously planned and raucously performed so that long-time Stones fan and renowned film man Martin Scorcese can make a movie of it for posterity, then it comes even easier.

The added bonus is that this fabulously energetic performance features some of the best music they ever made. Remember 'Start Me Up', 'Brown Sugar', 'I Can’t Get No Satisfaction', 'Paint It Black' and 'Shine A Light'? Well, they are all on this double album, plus a lot more….

The collection also features a few guest musicians and songs by White Stripes' Jack White ('Loving Cup'), Christina Aguilera ('Live With Me') and Buddy Guy ('Champagne And Reefer').

But this umpteenth live album in the Stones catalogue really is a focus on the main stars — Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Charlie — and their rowdy rebellious music and tireless stage performances.

As Scorsese says: "I was amazed by that sound all over again, that beautiful collective creation — so rich, full, complete, ecstatic and defiant... it was as if I was hearing 'Brown Sugar', 'Jumpin’ Jack Flash', 'She Was Hot', 'You Got The Silver' and their glorious version of 'Imagination' for the first time all over again…."

'Shine A Light' captures that feeling so perfectly that this album is destined to become a rock 'n roll classic. An absolute must for all Stones fans.
