Although the All Saints split up a while ago, they made sure their last album left a lasting impact on their fans.
However, one could forgive them for quitting after just five years, with only two albums to their name, because they bowed out at the height of their fame.
Instead of conjuring cover versions of songs from long ago, the all-girl band — consisting of Melanie Blatt, Shaznay Lewis, Nicole and Natalie Appleton — wrote their own songs that resulted in great hits.
After their two studio albums, the group produced their greatest hits album, "All Hits", which includes tracks such as the soulful “Never Ever”, the cheeky “Bootie Call” and the successful “Under The Bridge”.
This is a relaxing album with nothing too hectic; it’s soulful, funky and daring at the same time.
The album also includes “Pure Shores”, the hit theme song from the film, "The Beach", which was the top selling UK single in 2000. I prefer the remix version of “Pure Shores”, which, apart from being the funkier version, really puts one at ease with calming sounds of the sea.
In addition, Melanie Blatt does a solo collaboration with Artful Dodger on the dreamy track “Twentyfourseven (radio version)”. (Quite strange for a solo track to be on a Greatest Hits album, don’t you think?)
This is a worthwhile album for all those remaining All Saints fans as well as for those who don’t know the band but are still looking for good music to take along on those long drives.
Oh yes, beware of “War of Nerves”, it’s a hot one!! Don’t let your mom hear it.
