Songs in A Minor

New artist Alicia Keys is setting the music scene aflame with her debut album "Songs in A minor". The gorgeous singer received six nominations for the 2002 American Music awards, and walked away as the winner of "Favourite New Artist" in the Pop and Rock & Roll category, and the Soul/R&B category.

The twenty-year-old’s stylish album is a combination of classical, jazz, blues, pop, R&B and a whole lot of soul.

Keys wrote, sang and co-produced all of the songs on the album, working with greats such as R&B singer Brian McKnight, rapper Jermaine Dupri and Jimmy Cozier.

The singer also collaborated with Dupri on the hip and jazzy track "Girlfriend". Newcomer, Jimmy Cozier adds his spice with Alicia in the sexy and soulful duet entitled "Mr Man". She also teams up with Isaac Hayes on their seventies-sounding track "Rock wit u", off the "Shaft" soundtrack.

Take a listen to "A Woman’s Worth", which cleverly advises men to treat their female partners with respect. Other noteworthy tracks include the funky "Jane Doe" and "Fallin", a stunning classical- and blues-flavoured track that was the very successful first single off the album.

This album is consistent in maintaining its classical mood, which makes it a laid-back yet sexy album. This is thanks to Keys’ love for the piano, which she has been playing since the age of five, and which she plays on this recording.

Watch out people: the charming and sensual honey-coated voice of Alicia could make her the next Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige, or even the highly acclaimed Jill Scott!
