Alicia Keys is one exceptionally talented young lady. Blessed with a soulful powerhouse-like voice, skills on the piano (classically trained!) and true beauty, she is a diva in her own right.
Unplugged takes place in New York, in an arty ghetto-like stage setting, with what sounds like thousands of satisfied fans screaming in the background.
Alicia delivers solid performances throughout accompanied by a live stage band and outstanding backing vocalists.
Kicking off what is otherwise known as the 'Definitive Pure Artist Experience' (or so we're told) is 'Alicia's Prayer' where she renders a short prayer/song acappella.
She then goes on to 'Karma', one of the few tracks which are in one of her two previously released albums: 'The Secret Diary Of Alicia Keys' and 'Songs In A Minor'.
Other tracks 'A Woman's Worth', 'Diary', 'Falling' and 'You Don't Know My Name' are all sung quite unlike you've ever heard them before.
Highlights include the heartwarming duet 'Wild Horses' (with Maroon 5's Adam Levine), where she bangs the keys as he strums the chords. The result is truly marvellous.
Don't miss the very last track 'Love It Or Leave It Alone' featuring hip hop maestros, Mos Def and Common Sense.
'Jamrock' with Damian Marley makes for a great raggae twist.
Being a live album, not only does it offer you some pretty unique takes on Alicia's well known tunes, it also managers to capture the spontaneity of the performers, and the response of the audience.
All-in-all a classy and intimate experience not to be missed.
