Okay, so she’s looks eighteen going on twelve, sings songs to her grandfather and is far to pretty to be punk, but Avril, few teenagers dispute, does know how to kick ass.

She writes her own songs — or rather co-writes — which is more than we can say for other teen artists around, and her lyrics reflect a punk princess with a healthy grip on reality.

Add this to the usual musings of a teenager who’s fighting, electric guitar in hand, to keep her childhood idealism intact, and you get 'Under My Skin', an energetic mainstream rock album.

The double album includes several live tracks, as well as the catchy “Freak Out”, “Together” and “He Wasn’t”, not to forget the (bonus) locker-door sized poster of Ms Lavigne herself.

The music is a bit same-y, if you know what I mean (all thanks be to Alanis Morisette, I hear the producers say — again), but it’s decent enough to make the noise coming out of your teenager’s room bearable, if not even a little catchy.

When I turned the volume up, my little toddler did the bounce and jive, which he usually only reserves for the likes of Outkast and Snoop.

Looks like this rock album just got the thumbs up.
