Out of 5: Same

Bad boy Mandoza became a household name when his superb single “Nkalakata” was launched while ladies man Danny K’s rise to fame was through his chart-topping pop ballads and regular live performances

“Same Difference” is a collaboration, which presents listeners with neither the hard-hitting kwaito beats they’ve come to expect from Mandoza nor the “sweep me off my feet” ballads of Danny K.

Instead the album features a surprisingly ‘toned down’ Mandoza backed up with the innocuous voice of Danny K. The pop duo’s success has been phenomenal. After only a few weeks the album reached gold status, selling a total of 17 000 copies.

Tracks kick off with the simple ‘ear candy’ pop beats of “Friday” and take off with the “cruising” track of “Summertime”. The album boast a varied range of pop tracks blended with kwaito beats that will soon find fans of both genre’s head-bopping their way to the nearest dance floor.

The biggest problem with the album is that it completely lacks depth as songs tackle such life-challenging issues as workplace stress and arriving at parties on time. Another setback is that quite early on listeners will realise that Mandoza is carrying the album while Danny K sounds as though he simply hitched along for the ride.

Overall the album proves to be little more than pubescent fluff perfectly suited for any beach party this summer.
