Born in France, but raised on a Mediterranean island before returning to Paris in his late-teens, the ever-changing landscape has obviously had a profound effect on Alexkid’s music. Not quite the jazz-infused house we’d expect from a Parisian, nor the straight house from someone who spent his formative years on the Balaeric party islands, ‘Mint’ seems to be the next logical step in the musical evolution of Alexkid.
Released on the respected European house label, ‘F Com’, ‘Mint’ picks up where his debut album ‘Bienvida’ left off in mid-2001. Using all manner of technological wizardry to make music that doesn’t sound overbearingly electronic is what it’s all about, and he does this with great success.
Tracks like ‘Come With Me’ and ‘Love We Have’ made it onto the radio play-lists around the country, and Alexkid even graced our shores for a short tour earlier this year.
Apart from the obvious chilled out house influence, elements of Jamiroquai-esque grooves and the soulful R&B sounds of Seal make ‘Mint’ a difficult one to classify, but all in all, this is down tempo house for those who like their music electronic.
An impressive second offering from one of Paris’s most promising young artists.
