What's it about?

Renowned author Mike Enslin (John Cusack) only believes what he can see with his two eyes and what he can feel with his two hands. As the father of a young girl who passed away, and of whom he has found no evidence existing in any sort of afterlife, Enslin has forged for himself a successful career, by way of a string of bestselling books, discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world

However, his phantom-free run of long, uneventful nights in supposedly haunted locales is about to change forever when he decides to check into room 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel in New York City for his latest project 'Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms'.

Room 1408 is notorious as a place where an unreasonable number of deaths have occurred during the hotel's history, and it is rumoured that no-one who has ever stayed in the room has lasted longer than an hour.

Despite the desperate urgings and warnings of the Dolphin's manager (Samuel L. Jackson) Enslin is adamant that he wants to become the first person in years to stay in the reputedly haunted room in order to finally dispel any rumours the place might raise.

And so, while another bestseller may be imminent, like all Steven King heroes, Enslin soon discovers that he must go from being a sceptic to a true believer — and ultimately find a way to survive the night in room 1408.
