When a group of friends arrive on a deserted island for a weekend of partying they soon discover that they are not alone. It is not long before they realize the island was once used as a training ground for a specialised canine unit…

Inspired by "horror classics" (presumably the likes of 'Cujo'), 'the Breed' has big aspirations, but fails to live up to any of them. Billed as a horror flick it is just not scary. It's actually pretty boring.

The cast is made up of your usual B-Grade fare — Taryn Manning, Oliver Hudson (Kate's younger and less-talented brother), and Hill Harper — and the plot is much the same. Group of young, good looking students arrive on island for a weekend of boozing and sex, and soon they're getting picked off by uber-aggressive Alsatians.

Personally I just can't get scared by an angry pack of man's best friend. What's probably scarier is how far the career of Michelle Rodriguez has fallen. From 'Girlfight' to this? Wow! I'm getting shivers just thinking about it.

Watch out for a cameo by local actor Nick Boraine, complete with dodgy accent and bulging, terrified eyes… He doesn't last long, of course, but it does bring some local flavour to proceedings.
