Directed by Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Wag The Dog), Bandits is being billed by critics as one of the funnier movies you'll see this year, though with a delightful, quirky edge that takes this bank heist flick beyond the banal.
The movie has an outstanding cast, too, with Bruce Willis in fine form as a macho ladies' man, Joe Blake, who escapes from prison along with fellow screen hunk Billy Bob Thornton, who plays the sensitive hypochondriac, Terry Collins.
Together, they become the best-known thieves in the country as "The Sleepover Bandits", robbing their way from Oregon down to southern California using a series of bad disguises and a clever gimmick or two. Their plan, of course, is to hop over the border to Mexico where a comfortable retirement is envisaged.
The fugitives' partnership and friendship is tested, however, when they meet Kate Wheeler (Cate Blanchett), an ordinary housewife sick of her disappointing life. She leaps at the opportunity to escape her mundane world of domesticity, deeming herself the bandits' "hostage" as she joins them on their cross-country spree.
But when both Joe and Terry fall in love with her, things get all the more complicated....
No gratuitous violence, no blood, gore and explicit sex, this film does, however, promise good, entertaining viewing for everyone. Nothing wrong with that, these days!

well."
