He was responding to media articles about Metro constable Sergeant S'bu Mpisane living in a R15-million mansion in La Lucia, while allegedly raking in money from a lucrative sideline business.
"It is our understanding that moonlighting is not permitted in terms of the Metro Police regulations and we are therefore somewhat surprised that Mpisane has been able to amass a fortune whilst at the same time being a full time metro policeman," Steenhuizen said.
The party said they would be pursuing this matter at the next eThekwini council meeting.
The 38-year-old policeman, meanwhile, told the Witness newspaper that "I do a lot of things other than being a policeman".
Mpisane was reportedly earning a salary of R15 000 a month.
He bought the R12-million property on June 7 last year and nearly two months later, he bought an adjoining property for R3.5-million.
It was further reported that Mpisane and his wife Flora-Junior are the only registered members of a business called Zikhulise Auto Restorers CC.
He is also listed the sole director of a shelf company, Inyanga Trading 559.
