If Telkom wants to sell its stake in Vodacom it must do so, but to government, the Communication Workers Union said in a statement on Wednesday.

The CWU has called on government to buy back shares sold by Telkom to Vodaphone and investigate the restructuring of parastatals that are under the Department of Communications.

The objection comes after the union has established that there are elements within Telkom that have links with foreigners, government and the Congress of the People.

As a result they have called for an investigation to be launched into the behaviour of Telkom in the transaction and discipline for those found to be in the wrong.

The union believes that Telkom is being handed over to the British by the sale of a controlling interest in Vodacom to UK-based Vodaphone.
