MasterCard Worldwide has announced the appointment of Anthony West as General Manager, MasterCard Africa.

In his new position, West will be responsible for advancing MasterCard's business throughout Africa. This will include the development of strong relationships with both existing and new customer financial institutions and associates, as well as the expansion of the MasterCard brand across the continent's rapidly growing economies.

West joined MasterCard in 2000. In the eight years since then, he has been instrumental in implementing MasterCard's customer-focused strategies in existing and new markets across Africa.

"The increasing size and sophistication of the African payments market has created an excellent opportunity for MasterCard to strengthen and expand its presence throughout Africa," said Andre Sekulic, president of MasterCard Worldwide-Asia/Pacific, Middle East & Africa.
